Ranjith is a retired Charted Engineer (C.Eng) living in Massachusetts in the United States. He currently enjoys life working as a freelance artist. As a child he was interested in realistic paintings, especially the artworks produced by famous local artists from the 50s and 60s in Sri Lanka. He enjoyed the artworks created by artists like M Sarlis, Solias Mendis, David Paynter, George Keyt, Stanley Abeysinghe and J D A Perera. He spent hours admiring the murals created in temples and churches by some of these famous artists.
As a young art student he won many competitions and various awards. His father recognized his talents and sent him to Amarasekara School of Art, in Havelock Town where he met the artist A C G S Amarasekara and learned painting techniques in water color and pastel mediums. He won many medals and awards from the Children’s Royal Society of Arts in the United Kingdom.
After completing a Bachelors’ Degree in Electronic Engineering (BSEE) he started his career as an engineer in the software industry. He worked in many areas including underwater mapping systems, communications and in gaming industries. After working for many years as a software engineer, he now enjoys expressing his artistic talent. He enhanced his art experience by learning under Terry Walden and by joining workgroups conducted by David Gray and Alen Picard. He received scholarships to work at Hunakai Studio in Massachusetts. When vacationing in Sri Lanka, he spends time learning water color painting with artist Royden Gibbs.
